Church and Society

Here is some background on the role of the Church and Society in the United Methodist Church.
First, a historical statement about the role of Social Principles in our denomination:
"The United Methodist Church has a long history of concern for social justice. Its members have often taken forthright positions on controversial issues involving Christian principles. Early Methodists expressed their opposition to the slave trade, to smuggling, and to the cruel treatment of prisoners."
Second, here on the site of the national Board of Church and Society are to be found the United Methodist Social Principles.
The Social Principles are divided into six sections:
 1. The Natural World
 2. The Nurturing Community
 3. The Social Community
 4. The Economic Community
 5. The Political Community
 6. The World Community
