Growing in Grace Groups

Our Growing in Grace Groups are thriving! These groups meet weekly so we can talk about our faith journeys, our successes and our challenges, with each other. Look for the group meetings to be listed on the church calendar and in the Events section of this website.

It is our hope that everyone in the church will join a GiG group. For more information, use the Contact form on this website, or contact Dan Dionne (editor@firstumceureka.org).

Our GiG groups are a modernization of the traditional Methodist “class meeting,” which goes all the way back to John Wesley. What is a class meeting? In brief, it is a small group which gets together every week to answer the question, “How is it with your soul?” The goal is to encourage each other to live a life more fully in Christ. These meetings were the essential “method” in Methodism, and John Wesley considered them absolutely vital to true Christian living.

For more information, here’s the book we have used as the basis for our development of the GiG groups, available as a PDF.

A Methodist class meeting ticket–you had to have one to go to worship or meetings! No, we’re not going to do that.
